How many people have the slightest clue and think this is somehow ‘good’. 20 years, these idiots will be running in hamster wheels to keep the lights on, and liking it.
I turned 60 this past year. I am doing everything I can to buy a new truck this year to avoid the kill switch. I plan on this being the last truck I buy.
Never mind the black box that continually records your last 5 minutes of driving habits. Be careful what you buy.
I saw them roll that shit out in real time way back in the mid nineties.
I plan on hacking into the systems to prevent just exactly that. WHat one engineer can think of, another engineer can hack. You’d better believe it’ll last less than a year for somebody to come up with a hack.
Because The Salt Must Flow…
From what I’ve read, TPTB have had the capability to track a vehicle in real time since 2013 model year via a vehicle’s on board GPS. Insurance companies offer discounts if you sign up for their “driver monitoring program”. Hackers have demonstrated capability to assume control of throttle settings in some vehicles since 2015.
My last truck is a 77 f350
uh…4×4 If I can get it together.
They have been able to shit down on star vehicles for years ,probably others too.
There are quite a few newer vehicles that already have a kill switch. As WWilson noted, anything with Onstar has it. Quite a few others from recent years also. One of several reasons my vehicles are a 1997 & a 1991.
P.S. – easy-peasy to shut down modern cars with Electronic Engine Controls (electronic Fuel Injection), just use an EMP “rifle”. You can build ’em at home…
