I was told that the English drink warm beer because Lucas makes the refrigeration systems.
Lucas: Prince of Darkness
I have fought The Prince of Darkness many times and won.
SOOO much truth in such a small area.
After an Austin-Healey, a Triumph, 2 MGs and even a Rover I became a ’64-’81 GM V8 A body believer. Never again dreaded driving after dark or felt nervous reaching for the wiper or fan switch. Never had to worry that the smoke I just got a whiff of was my wiring harness or just someone burning trash in the distance. Never felt the need to say a little prayer every time I was about to turn the key. And that tackle box of fuses, connectors, spools of wire and those burned up dykes I had went back to carrying actual fishing gear.
I never looked back.
…and don’t get me started about Girling hydraulics…
Do you know the three positions of a Lucas light switch?
Dim. Flicker. Off.
Is flicker the position that allows the smoke to leak from the system?
My first car was a 70 Camaro that my brother bought after being in Vietnam for 3 years and on leave for 30 days. My brother had gotten out of a hospital for the second time as his Ranger unit was wiped out and he survived. He came home and had the car is pieces and had to go to base in Ft Hood so he sold it to me as I was saving money for a car. I put it back together over a year and then sold it after a year right before I graduated HS.
I was with my best friend and we were talking at a Fast Food as I was complaining I should not have sold my car, and a guy over heard us and he told me his brother was selling his Austin-Healy and gave he his brother’s info. I contacted his brother and found out he was selling a 1966 Austin-Healy 3000 for $400. I found the only issues were that it was painted a yellow color with sprinkles, a small dent, and missing the seats rails that made them loose. In 1974 this meant the value of the car was several thousand and I bought it in cash and I fixed the issues. I found that I had to work on this car almost always and that there was a certain spring that I could only get from England that would only last about 6 weeks and need to be replaced. Having multiple carbs I learned that to get them into sync I had to adjust air flow and this happened every time one of the springs warped. I ended up buying many springs at one time. The car was not as fast as my Camaro at the start or end but would go very high speed. I got tired of the time I spent working on it and sold it and I made money.

If Phil traded the sprite for a land rover at least he could work on it without having to stoop down.
