      • Agreed on 2nd Hand Lions – 1st saw him as Boo Radley, and he had a great cameo in Cruise’s 1st Reacher. “Napalm” in a Cav Hat – Awesome.

        • I still laugh when he handed the K-bar to him instead of his rifle !
question, I don’t remember him giving the knife back though in the movie?
but 2nd hand lions is still my favorite.
if you watch the deleted parts, you see where Garth has a lot of filled of filled out forms for salesmen to call
          on them !

  1. Damnit.

I can still smell the napalm in the morning.

That’s bold talk for a one eyed fat man

One of my all time favorites.

    • Al Sieber in Geronimo, even if the part wasn’t historically accurate. And yeah, Apocalypse, Total immersion in the part. He was paying attention to that one for sure.

  2. I enjoyed all of his movies but “Open Range” was a favorite, but I also like westerns so maybe that’s why.

    • Yes, a simple piece, but his character cursing whilst hurriedly trying to recharge his now-empty Remington New Model cap and ball revolver from cover in the gunfight scene in ‘Open Range’ was a salute to stoic individuals of years past who fought with what they had.

  3. Capt. McRae was my favorite character that he played. Then that 15 min. or so in Apocalypse. I love the smell of napalm in the morning … it smells like Victory.

He was also very good in Geronimo.

I don’t think he ever had a bad performance in anything he appeared in.

  4. I wonder if Tommy Lee Jones is going to drag him back to San Antonio and bury him in that little cottonwood grove down by the river.
