I have an exceptional collection of very nice Christmas ties I’ve built up over 35 years, and really should wear one for dinner tonight. But, I know nobody else will be dressed up (which will just make me look like a pretentious asshole; which I am, but don’t need to advertise it), and it is strangely and unseasonably warm here today, so I’ll probably just go casual, and the ties will gather dust for another year. Oh well,
I have a great collection of Christmas ties, too! My wife started giving them to me before we were married 25 years ago, and she still gives me a new one every year. If I see one I like in a thrift store, I’ll buy it. I don’t work in an office anymore, but when I did, I wore a different one every day between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I still wear a suit and tie to church every Sunday, even though only one or two others do, and I don’t care if it makes me look like a pretentious asshole. I’ve had so many people, young and old, tell me they think it’s nice that I dress up for services.
So wear those ties! Even people who think wearing ties is pretentious will give you a pass for a Christmas tie because it’s a Christmas decoration.
