If he’s keeping it running that’s a testesment to his mechanical skill set on wheels.
My thoughts exactly!
Mad Skilz
My wife was driving a Geo Metro when I met her. Wierd rig. A 3-cylinder snowmobile engine under the hood. I had to do a fuel pump on it, and it was insanely expensive and had to be special ordered, but at least it wasn’t an “in the top of the tank” fuel pump.
I don’t even remember when or how we lost it, but it wasn’t with us long.
I had a 1988 Chevy Metro that had the 3cyl engine. and 12″ tires, I had the engine rebuilt and massaged and put a 2 bbl Weber carb on it and an header… I then placed 13″ Suzuki wheels and tires, which the Metro was a Suzuki… had the 5 speed trans-axle beefed up. I removed the rear seat and built a platform to replace it, moved the battery to the back where the spare donut tire sat. I still got 45mpg with a little screamer! I drove it 40 miles to work as a commute car, better then my 1968 Dodge Power Wagon with the 360 cid in it.
Had one as well when I lived in Portland, but with 4 kids we couldn’t go far in it without packing everybody in like it was a Klown Kar.
“Rented” it to a guy that was going to college in Eugene, he put 90K on it and when he was done we sold it for almost as much as we paid for it! Good shape, nothing broke.
Yes, it was a Suzuki Swift that was rebranded a Chebby…
It’s not really a bad car – it was rebadged as the Subaru Just and a couple others.
Pretty reliable, great mileage, and simple.
I’d be much more impressed if the mobile mechanic was driving a Yugo.
I’d be even MORE impressed if it was a Trabant!!
Bought one new for my wife. She drove it and drove it, once across the country when we moved to Oregon. We changed oil from time to time, replaced a battery, brakes and tires when worn, and a couple light bulbs. That is all it needed and when we sold it in 2016 it still got better mileage than hybrids. I understand it is still running.
Wish I still had my ’88 Metro… 45 mpg.
What exactly do you need to do in the US to qualify yourself as a “Master Mechanic?”
Here, I earned three separate Journeyman Red Seals (interprovincial,) plus I have my Blue (provincial,) and this doesn’t count all my factory schooling and Government Inspection Tickets. However, not one other mechanic I’ve met in thirty-plus years calls themselves a “Master Mechanic.”
Can someone enlighten me as to the difference?
Yes Phil, I’m still talking with a few companies Stateside, as I am sick of our leader Trudy Sparklesocks, the flaming Commie Lover.
