I Wouldn’t Have Believed It If I Hadn’t Seen It

A combination I would have never, ever concieved could even be possible.

Tom Jones singing and David Gilmour playing, the Prince song Purple Rain.

  1. From 1992, no less,.the year I finished high school. I was thinking there was no way this was recent, just from the appearance of Tom Jines. This was done for his (then new) show on British television. An interesting choice, but performed quite competently on the parts of both Mr..Jones and Mr. Gilmour.

    • So, it is real then?
I just assumed that it was AI generated.
Getting so seeing isn’t always believing anymore.
Not unless you saw it in-person, in real time.
Even then, regarding the circumstances, I’d still question it.

Time, the media, and my government have made me one cynical bastard.

  2. What’s (almost) funny about this, is that it strikes some people as so unlikely to be real, that now it is almost assumed to be AI. Largely because AI is so frequently being used to fabricate videos of scenarios that are too far fetched to be real. Our ability to perceive reality is being wrecked. Which is very likely one of the key motives of the difference of this technology. We are so screwed.

  3. Gilmour. One of the great ones along with EVH, Hendrix,Aldrich. Prince was an awesome guitar soloist in his own right.. Pretty cool whether AI or not.

  4. My two cents… My wife and I have seen Tom Jones in concert twice in the last four years. The guy is in his eighties and can still belt out the tunes. Worth the money and time if you can stand the crowd. Terrific show both times.

    • I can’t claim to be a big fan of Tom Jones style of music, but as someone who once gigged semi-professionally (as a keyboard player) I can respect the talent and the hustle. Especially to still be doing it at 80ish.

Hell, I’m in my early 50’s and the idea of going on the road for concerts has less than zero appeal to me. Of course it takes a certain mindset and commitment to make a multi decade career out of it, and I didn’t have “it”.

    • Singing is actually really good for you. You get really oxygen saturated when you windpipes can run wide open.

        • I always tell people that if you hear me singing I must be drunk and if I sound good to you then you must also be drunk…!!! LOL…..

          • I’m no vocalist. Probably could’ve done well as one (in terms of technical skills) if I cared to, but was content to play an instrument well.

I don’t have the personality to be a front man, I’m not flashy and outgoing enough for that. In fact, I like staying below the radar. The mere idea of being a celebrity (and all that entails) is entirely repugnant to me.
