Bridge in Durham, NC. I was at that intersection and saw a rental truck get its top clipped. Happens all the time.
I have noticed it’s mostly joggers driving the rental furniture delivery trucks. Had to chew some ass one day when they trenched my yard backing into the neighbor across the street one day.
I don’t see why those rental trucks don’t have the truck height (plus 6″) decal-ed across the top of the windshield.
Anyone with a CDL should know how high their truck is.
I had to back up on Ceaser Chavez in(at the start of rush hour) Austin when I saw the height of the bridge under Lamar BLVD said it was (probably at the low side) 12′ 8″ and my truck was almost 13′ tall.
Thanks SIRI…
So………..the bridge is a problem and you only raise it 6″. Genius!
A little grading work and they could lower the road too. It may take a couple of pumps to keep it clear on rainy days but, I’ve seen it work before.
Nope. Too many underground utilities they said.
It’s a railroad. You can’t just insert a hump. You can try to make the bridge thinner, which won’t buy you much, or you can lower the underpass, potentially undermining the bridge supports.
Stupidity should be painful:
When you subsidize something, you get more of it.
Yes. Your truck height should be something you know. Or at least bridges you will have problems with.
Still pretty funny.
In my old neighborhood, a RR bridge two miles down what looks like a major road. Or so many trucks thought.
The ‘smart’ (a relative term) ones stopped short just before the 9’7″ underpass. That left them having to back up for over one mile until a place to make their 27 pt U turn.
From the main highway to the bridge, there were eleven highly visible caution signs stating bridge height. Still, about two to five trucks per week tried their luck and lost.
Every time I have seen a similar montage of the same bridge guess what?
I laugh my ass off……………………………..every time.
ps Not the first time he has posted similar.
One reason Ryder doesn’t rent to regular people. (just business’s) that and the Oklahoma City bombing.
Dejoh, I did not know that. Grew up in Okc but was living in Tulsa when that happened. Amazingly I did not personally know anyone lost, my brother did though.
The bombers rented a Ryder truck. It was also one of the ways they got caught. Ryder changed who they deal with after that.
The 11foot8 site has been around a loooong time, it’s rather famous. Been watching it since its inception. I am always amazed how many rental trucks get a crewcut there, even AFTER the 6″ raise!!
