  1. Fresh powder. Give it a day or two to consolidate and it’ll be fine.
We once tried to get into a mountain shelter after about 48″ of new snow the day before. We had skis and snowshoes. Neither one worked. We were post-holing up to our armpits, and it took forever to go a few yards. We bailed out and went elsewhere.

  2. Really sucks if there’s a creek below that fresh snow.

Worse if you posthole over a creek with snowshoes on, they become drywall anchors if you’re not careful…

  3. Hope they have shovels…. because that sled isn’t coming out of there without a lot of digging..

  4. Either over top of a small creek or a couple small trees and he went into the void area between the snow and the tree. This is why if there is a trail, you stay on it for a reason.

  5. Once when I was trapping. Had another guy with me on his machine. Took about a hour to get out and up the hill. That ended our season. We were over 30 miles from the road system out in the mountains. It was 45 below and 8-10 feet of snow up there.

  6. Been in a few tree well on my sled. Fortunately we ride in a big enough group that getting out is fairly simple.
