  1. get a woodstove and you “problem” will be over. more so now that it is starting to warm up a bit. like 60 during the day, but dropping to 40 or lower at night.
hell, the first time my grandson was up here, he asked about the blanket on his bed. I told him, “you find out later”. funny the next morning he said he was fine until
about 10-11 pm and then he grabbed it as the temp dropped down at night.
might get into the 80’s during the day here. but at night it will drop down below 60
on a average. the last time my brother was here, he said it was great sleeping weather ! it is always a good idea to have real wool blankets on hand.

    • I have a burn barrel out back that gets leaves, yard clippings, branch trimmings and cardboard. Use the wood ash for the corn plants.

      • back in the 1980’s OUR “Gov’t” paid some school to come up with some way to replace fertilizer on “crops”.
something the “locals’ could come up with. get this, after spending like 400 grand. they came up with wood ash and urine to use on their “crops”. funny thing was it worked out rather well. slash and burn farming was the standard over there anyway. so this kind of worked out for them.
not that it mattered in the long run. they tend to plant the same crop in the same soil year after year and then wonder
why after 4-5 years of that, nothing grows there anymore?
can you guess where I am talking about ?

  2. The exception being the term “cardboard”. There is only one substance in the realm of the pulp and paperboard industry that truly meets the standard of identity for “Cardboard” and that is the specialized poly coated paperboard that is used in the manufacture of … PLAYING CARDS.

What most “boxes” (read – SHIPPERS or RSC’s [Regular Slotted Containers]) etc. are constructed from?

    Corrugated Paperboard.

And yes, nothing better than a well constructed case. 275lbs burst strength C-flute… crisp and pristine. Kept reasonably dry (the “adhesive” holding it all together? CORN STARCH if you can believe it!) they will hold up very well if you keep it in an un-infested area. That doggone corn starch over time does attract certain critters for sure.

Sorry… My Inner “Retired Packaging Professional” escaped this AM…. insufficient quantities of caffeine consumed prior to reading this.

    • Thanks anyway for the enlightenment. Every little scrap of trivia knowledge helps, you never know when you will/can apply it!

  3. I used to keep them until they started to deteriorate then toss them into the burn barrel, now i only keep the ones i am really really sure i might need

    • Same here…very good boxes. Only one very special box. I’ve got a good size shop/shed. Unwanted boxes are dissected into targets.

  4. I’m SURE if you have cats you have several-sized containers that are Cat Approved. Changed out frequently I’m sure.
