I also have a beef with what he’s said; that he still somehow thinks we can come together to with the left over this issue. I believe he is sadly mistaken on that point. The political left – even if many of it’s adherents don’t advocate for these disgusting and horrific acts, or engage in them personally, are openly and actively advocating for not holding those leftists in power who are committing these acts to account. For them, it is purely a power play. They will happily see any ostensibly right wing politicians get run out and executed, for this behavior, but as always, the left will apply a double standard in not punishing their own, in turn.
If punishment is meted out to all those involved, the political ruling class will be irreparably destroyed (which it damn well should be) but the left recognizes that this will wreck their ability to retain political power and control, which they value over all else. It will do the same to the republicans, apparently. But there are enough people on the political right who are still morally principled enough to accept that “their guys” need to be sacrificed for the greater good. The left has no such scruples.
In essence, there is nothing on which decent, normal people can find common ground with the modern political left in this country. Every disagreement is now over fundamentals, there is no degree to which either side can accept compromise on this issues, because the issues are strictly binary by their very nature. They all come down to simple black and white, right or wrong, yes or no questions. Should there be borders? Should culturally incompatible demographics be excluded? Should criminals be punished? Should government be funding (leftist) political activism via blatant industrial scale fraud? There are no shades of grey to be found in any of these matters (and others I’ve not bothered to enumerate). I know my answers to these, and I know theirs are the polar opposite of mine. So they can fuck off now and forever, because I will never accept their premise on any of these issues
