Well, close. This is a picture perfect description of every Boomer I know. Except, that it left how “they all know how to fight AND negotiate” because their grew up “settling it” and then walking away. Somethings as friends and other times as victor and vanquished. Either way, it was done. Resolved.
As a Boomer, I’m laughing. Whoever this is doesn’t know about the three Millennials I raised. I would also suggest they never leave their urban area because, in rural America, that is how kids are still raised.
And as a side note, us Boomers were raised by people who survived the Great Depression, WWII, and the Korean War. Plus, they thought Mercurochrome should be liberally smeared on every scrap or wound. Those folks did not tolerate whiners and weaklings.
I’m an older Gen X’er. I can confirm the mercurochrome usage. I can still feel the “bite” of it when it was applied to an open scrape or wound–then covered with a band-aid (large or small depending on the size of the wound) to “keep the medicine in and protect it from infection”, which made the sting even worse.
Merthiolate, iodine, and kaopectate would fix anything that ailed you.
You really didn’t have to mention kaopectate! I still shuddered and looked around to see if I could escape my mother’s determination to force that on me…
Hadn’t had any since I was a kid. Didn’t miss it. Didnt look for it. Saw it is still available in the store recently. Flashback to mom chasing me with the bottle in one hand, and the tablespoon in the other.
Don’t forget cod liver oil for what ails you
1 Tblsp every Nov 15th, Dec 15th, Jan 15th, Feb 15th and March 15th. I can still smell that vile stuff every time its mentioned anywhere and I’m in my advanced 70’s. Mom told us it would help keep us healthy. We got colds anyway and I got strep throat several times in grammar school.
They STILL sell it at the grocery store where I shop in the section where cured (smoked and salted) fish is displayed.
Nobody’s mentioned Vicks Vapo-Rub. I hated that stuff, it never did a thing for my asthma.
Also ,special mention – that horrible fluoride crap they smeared on our teeth after the Dentist got done with us.
As others mentioned, we boomers did this too, and better, I might add…
Well, we did have better music, so we had that going for us too.
I actually had a 40-something friend observe me copping a drink from the hose once when I was washing the bike and he said, “Ain’t ya got any bottled water?”
Bitch please, this shit comes up from a 180′ deep well and it’s nice and cold.
“They built different”, “had went”. Your kind needs a lesson from you before it’s to late for them.
