Today I say a prayer for my uncle Benjamin, who I never knew. He was a medic executed by an SS officer in Persano, three days after the invasion of Italy
ps. Forgot to add met one of his unit buddies a few years ago, he told me the story. He and his buddies saw the half track later, chased it down, killed the officer and everybody in back only the driver got away because he hauled ass when he saw them coming.
the M-60 weighs about 23-24 pounds, but it always seem a lot more as time went by, or kicks.
still it was a good weapon if you took care of it. never had a problem with the one I carried. then again, they where still “new” like back then.
had a guy in my unit that carried a 1917 Smith. he was the first one I saw to dum-dum his bullets. scooped out and cross hatched.
The M-60 would have been better, if it had been a more faithful copy of the MG-42.
The M1917 Smith AND M1917 Colt were the GOAT. They got more velocity than the 1911. WHAT!! Yes Clarence, the loooong free bore of those smooth cylinders gave the 45 ACP a big running start before running into those grippy grooves.

now, when I get anew pain, i wonder.
is it temporary or establishing residence.

riding bikes with no helmet till about 65. makin shine in the woods.
bootleggin things. single engine pilot license. scuba diving.
