#15 – sometime back I got it into my head to purchase an “authentic” Colt AR rifle. Yeah, I know I can build one much cheaper from various other sources or even purchase a better rifle straight up from almost any other manufacturer, but I wanted a Colt for my collection. I already had my defensive use rifle and this would be a range toy. I went to some of the online gun auction sites and was surprised that most of the older Colt AR’s were only chambered in .223, not 5.56. Now I wonder if the Colt management were nervous nellies about selling a civilian rifle in a military caliber, like much of the Euro-fags in the previous century? They advertised it as being “like the rifle you trained with”, but certainly not chambered to accept the military surplus ammo you could get dirt cheap. Ended up buying a new one instead just to get that 5.56 caliber.
