Pop use to say, you’re not some bad man’s boyfriend or pushing up daisies, life is good move along.
Great post CederQ, & Noogie’s pop had it nailed. Took me a moment to grok the “bad man’s boyfriend, tho! ๐
When asked “How’re you doing, my father would almost always answer “Happy to be on the right side of the sod.”
I use that to this day, & have added “…to still be on….”, & sometimes add: “Every day above ground is a good day!” I love the laughter, agreement, & other responses I get.
Now 65, at around 18 I read this, & it has stuck with me ever since:
“Yesterday is history, tomorrow’s a mystery, but today is a gift…… that’s why we call it the present.”
Oops….Boogie, & Cederq!!
Yesterday was also the easiest day.
When asked how I’m doing, I usually just tell people “Well, I didn’t have a chalk outlline around my body when I woke up, so I guess I’m doing ok.”
“I woke up on the green side of the grass, so I’m off to a great start.”
Got my grumpy old ass in a sling for saying things like that to a snowflake coworker at my last job before I retired. My better 3/4, the only female mechanic in the airline, actually made the soyboi cry a few times. I was so proud!
My Dad always said about young people, โtheyโll figger it outโ.
Boy howdy the end of life lesson theyโre about to get.
Some of those kids had a hard time holding in their laughter until the end of the skit. ๐
