What I grew up with. My dad was a coffee hound.
That’s how I learned to make coffee too, Henry. Shows our age. —ken
Percolated coffee is shunned by the coffee elite. That is why I love it. Strong and bitter, bring it on.
Got one and know the exact amount to use. Much used during the camping season. 2 scoops, 10 mins to boil, 5 mins to perc, remove from heat and precious coffee. 😉
Got that exact kit except the lid is missing the glass viewer. Will have to rectify it.I was up in the attic and saw it again the other day and had that exact thought.
Coffee has a long expiration date so have been adding for quite awhile. Don’t forget the filters. Now I celebrate a bazillion in a pack.
Just got me one in stainless…it’s great! Have extra nubs if they are glass as they can and will crack. Mine is plastic.
Use one every day. It’s okay to run in the slow lane….
IF we have coffee to brew….
Yeah, IF. I have two of those stashed away.
We use an enamel one every weekend. Easy as pie. Grandma always put egg shells in to remove bitterness. I do on occasion. it works ,just always make sure you put lid on correctly. If not you will be buyin new glass perk top 😉
I use mine every day
Different handle but the rest is just like that
There’s no better flavor on a campfire. Or if the world comes to an end.
Got one in reserve…along with several pounds of dark roast espresso coffee beans just waiting to be ground up for each pot when needed.
Won’t ground them until they are ready to brew…you loose a lot of flavor and aroma after 15 minutes of the grinding process.
And, yea…I drink that shit strong and black. Talk about a lightening bolt up the ass…
And the used grounds go on my blueberry bushes and garden…they love that shit.
That’s what my father used until he upgraded to an electric percolator when I was around 15.
My lady who oversees everything got me a 6ish cup blue with white speckles old time coffee pot after I told her about Cowboy Kent’s YouTube on making cowboy coffee. When I use it, I use stuff like Yuban. The high priced stuff I save for my French press. Pinkies out!
They work great on a hot wood stove on a cold winter day.
re: Chris Lapp- Your vintage percolator parts are on eBay.
I grew up with a coffee maker that we had to boil the water in the kettle and then pour it into the top compartment after putting four scoops of coffee in the center compartment. After it dripped from the top through the coffee in the center into the pot below it was ready. Mom and Dad liked strong coffee and on one occasion Mom asked her brother if he would like some coffee to take along on his way home he answered, “just cut off a chunk and I’ll stick it in my pocket”.
I have one. After my second, in four years, Mr. Coffee died, bought an Italian brand espresso maker. That worked well until butter fingers me dropped it and broke the handle off. It only makes 10 ounces at a time, but that keeps my caffeine intake in check. So I dug out a Farberware percolator that I’ve had since the 70’s. Used that for a couple days until I bought a 5″ Vise Grip at Harbor Freight to use while I hunted around cyber space for a replacement handle. Finally found a handle source this past week end. I’ll be buying two this week. One for the repair and one for a spare.
I bought a small one like that only stainless steel. I use it every day.
I got it after watching Kent Rollins cook cowboy coffee. https://youtu.be/7UAoT21eqXI
I prefer percolated coffee. The boiling/cooking process mellows it out and fills the house with that awesome smell.
