    • 1890’s? Yeah, got a few of those.
Grandfather’s tools as well as some of my dad’s as well!

  1. We were at a family gathering at Christmas and I pointed out to my older brother that the High School Class of 2002 just had their 20 year reunion and he looked like he was going to be sick. We are now seeing degreed Engineers come into the work force who were born in the 21st century. One the day I was born, people who were the age I am now were born in 1896. Feel old yet? The movie “Gone With The Wind” is now older than the Civil War was when the movie was made.

    • It’s truly amazing how we don’t REALLY notice the passage of time until we look back when we say, “In MY day…”. Older and older, I feel. Tired, I am!

  2. On the other hand, LS engines are getting cheap, and if you’re lucky you can find one with a 5-speed like I did yesterday for $500.

  3. Eating at a restaurant where Ye Olde Tyme Tools hanging on the wall were ones you used growing up.

  4. or how about a gasket cutter made in the 1950’s (?) made out of bronze ?
in a steel box/case. for the most part almost all of my machine tools where made
before the 1970’s. do have a couple of bench grinders that are newer.
but the table saw is from the 1950’s. drill press from the 1960’s
my milling machine is from the 1980 ! it is a old Jet -15 model. before that had stops machined into the table. and a lot of other little items they have improved
    since then.
my air compressor I bought back in 1973 for 159 bucks at Sears. new motor on it thought, about 12 years ago. maybe ?
South Bend lathe is early 1930’s. new atlas lathe from 1968. atlas shaper from 1963 or 4 ,I forget.
I do have a pipe die set with 2 piece dies and a cast iron holder that is old as anything. had to make a new wooden box for them as the old one had rotten away. the neighbor next door had a friend who got a MGB GT 1968 last summer
and was shocked when I came over and did a tune up on his carbs and gave him the flow meter I had along with a Volo service book on SU carbs from 1962
so, I really wonder when I see a ad for old “stuff” these days
but when I look at my old bench vise and then the new ones made today. I would rather keep my “old” tools and books.
most ads for vintage tools means rusty ones they trying to sell off as good tools
just because a tools is rusty from some asshole doesn’t mean it was any good to start with. cheap rusty junk is just junk.

  5. heard someone refer to 30 years ago, and i said, ah the 70’s. then realized it was the 90’s. had to go lay down

    • Yup, Bear. This. Refuse to grow up and never give up. Tenacity, it’s a thing.

  6. Had a gal at work one time complaining about feeling old. I asked her when she was born. I rolled my eyes and said “I was flunking out of college then.”

  7. There is an F70 Snap On 1/4 rachet in my tool box, had them replace the gears two years ago, one of my best tools.

  8. Just had some work done on my 1949 AC WD tractor that my dad bought from the neighbors in 1964 that I’ve been driving ever since. Had to get the work done because my left hand doesn’t work well from stroke. Now the tractor is in better shape than I and is just a little younger. Wish I could get some new parts.–ken
