Personal experience with that method; very good if you plan ahead. Make sure to use a heavy gauge and cover windows, rear view mirrors, and fasten the corners with tarp grips and bungee.
I use Frostblocker for the windshield and side mirrors, works essentially the same way. Had it for 3 years now still like new.
My daughter has a waxed canvas that covers the windshield back to the hatchback glass with side window covers for snow days. When it snowed or iced over she pales it back like the video then puts it back into place where the side flaps are folded to the top and she rolls it up to stow it in the hatchback. She lives in New Hampshire.
Trick is keeping that barrier from blowing away in the windstorm that often precedes/accompanies a dumping of snow.
