  1. When we first got Bonnie, she had been beaten and abandoned with 4 puppies. My husband and I took turns sleeping with her to get her through her night terrors. She would get the thousand yard stare and we would work and work to bring her home and away from the terrible place she was imprisoned. We did succeed. She is a joyful, irreverent soul.

    • Bless you Jean for your good work. Similar story here. Adopted a five year old, beautiful yellow male lab from Labrador Rescue. Extremely well behaved and trained. When we would reach down to pet his head, he would duck and blink his eyes as if afraid of being hit. We learned not to do that until he trusted us. I have no words for the scum that abused him. For the first year or so, he would have seizures during thunderstorms, loud noises or just randomly. Thank goodness that stopped, but the husband never took him goose or duck hunting for that reason. Unfortunately, he developed anal gland cancer at twelve years old and we had to put him down. I was not going to subject him to surgery, chemo and radiation. I cried like a baby when we had him put down. Best dog we ever had and he was my constant companion.
