DEATHRAY Update 4-5-22

He had surgery yesterday and came out last night and sent me an email this morning but this is the first time I get to sit down and type this. This quote was in the body:

“What he told me the plan was to put the ankle pieces in place and fill in the voids with bone dust from a cadaver and a bonding agent. Then a plate attached to the heel that runs up both sides of the leg and attaches to each leg bone.” Deathray.

When he gets up to walking in about eight weeks we can call him “Dead Man Walking…” He still needs your prayers and healing thoughts. He has a long, bumpy road ahead of him with pain and learning to walk again…

  1. Good grief! What a terrible predicament. I’m glad he didn’t get hurt any worse.

  2. “Dead man walking”…

    I like it.

How OLD is this buzzard, BTW?

As we all know, healing takes WAY longer when you’re an old SOB.

    • I’ll have to check Scott, late 50s, early 60s? I never asked Deathray and I talk with him often. I just figured he is an old fart like the rest of us…

    • “Dead Man Walking” Heh – at least his humor is still fully intact. I hope he recovers quickly.

My wife broke her ankle cleanly two years ago. Motorcycle accident – the foot was pointed about 120 degrees from straight ahead. She is very tough and insisted the EMTs not to cut her boot. She got her way (which is often the case, lol). She had leg surgery too, having some plates and screws set bone in place. It took about 3 months before she could put any weight on it, and took several months before she could put away the crutches for good. What was lucky for her was that Covid pandemic shut down schools and remote teaching was the norm (she is school teacher). So she could do her job because of pandemic, proving there is a silver lining in most cases.

She is up and about, but walks slower and has to be careful because the ankle will sometimes want to give out from under her, including just standing there. Especially when walking down stairs, she takes care to carefully use the stair rail. Cold and humid often bring some discomfort as well. But she still walks and works and that is what counts.

I hope Deathray’s case ends up better than my wife’s case. Feel better soon sir.

  3. My sympathy is with him. I too , had to learn how after reconstruction surgeries to my pelvis , back and lower leg. Long process for us older farts. I was 61 when injured and now at 68 can walk short distances..
    Wishing him well

  4. Cederq, you posted a pic of somebody riding a tame elk, or some large deer. I reckon that Death needs a similar all-terrain animal to help him get around out in the wilds again. Two animals come to mind: a Grizzly bear (some drawbacks, yes), and an Abrams (which Deathray apparently rode often, before leaving Georgia).

  5. MC accident back in 84. Shattered femur, busted up ankle and every bone in my foot broken except the big toe. You have a lot of bones in your foot, anyway they drilled the femur right down the middle and put a rod in that runs from top to bottom and wrapped wire to hold it all in place. Used the stuff they drilled out of my femur to fix my ankle which has a screw and wire in it. After about 2 years of wearing in the pieces I have not had any problem/pain in any of those body parts. Has not been easy to think about that without shuddering after all these years……Crashed at 105MPH and I was not wearing a helmet. I got religion after that.

  6. Bondo in the leg, eh? You’re a lucky guy, Deathray, stay safe and heal fast.

And, don’t even think of riding Tank, she’s a mean one!

    • Igor, about Death riding the Tank, he seems to relish living dangerously. Maybe something of the sort got him thrown off, to land hard? I mean, we’ve only got his word that she wasn’t involved.

  7. Oh yeah Cederq, Unfuck/Sternie says if the silly bugger had been wearing a mask like he was supposed to, he wouldn’t have been hurt. Sympathy is grand.

  8. Thanks for the update. Many of us are lucky God’s not done with us yet. My brother a couple weeks ago took a head first dive off a hay trailer, no real issues so far. Me I am like a cat I guess.
