my dad bought a 1968 C20 back the day, big 292 ci. 6 cyl. 4 speed. real work truck.
I rebuilt the engine after he put like 120 thousand on it at the same time did the clutch. I love that damn old truck. he gave it to his brother in eastern KY. to sell and he kept the damn truck for the farm. it was just too useful to sell.
my dad let it go, back in the early 1985 or so, we stopped by and I check it out.
the fucker never changed the oil ! it was like tar on the dipstick.
made he go to town and buy engine flush, oil and a new filter for it. I was pissed
more than my dad was (he knew his brother, I guess ) anyway, the truck lasted another 20 years after that. never found out what happen to it though.
shame, really. it was a sweet running truck, got over 20 mph after the rebuild,
could hold a 100 mph on the highway all day with no problem. and it had a monojet carb too. and the fucker let it rust away down there.
I tried a few times to get it back from him, he would never sell it though.
The truck listed as a ’68 Chevy is either a ’71 or ’72. The grill gives it away.
Correct, they moved the parking lights from the grill to bumper slots for the ’71 model.
Had a ’71 years ago (before it was an antique) and have a ’70 now.
It’s a ’72. 1971 had the mirror mount just above the windshield; ’72 had them stuck directly to the windshield.
’68 had a similar grill to the ’67, but was the first year for the full-size rear glass (’67 & earlier had the old smaller oval).
I would love to know what the front bumper on that ’58 Oldsmobile station wagon actually weighed.
My first car was a 1957 Chevy Bel-Aire 4-door. Hella fun ride.
High scruel buddy’s brother drove a minty 4 door ’55 Bel-Aire in the same color scheme every day to school. It was beautiful and had loads of room. My most wanted car is a 46-47 Plymouth 4 door. You could hold a dance in the back seat. Nice flat head 6 up front. Dad said you could tune those so well a nickel would stand on edge on the head while it was running. He swore it would get nearly 20 mpg in the late 40’s. He worked on them at a service station in high scruel about that time.
the ’55 Impala’ is a 58
Great set. That micky D’s sign, when I was a kid ours had millions in single digits. Been awhile. I love old cars, not a corvette guy but that barn find I am sure looks magnificent today, would like to know.
There are only two years of Vette’s that I have ever liked, that year with the split window and 59’s
That white C20 Fleetside is a nice ride.
