I used to like going to 5 guys when I still had kids here.
The last time though I went there I left in disgust. Not for the food, but for the 200 decibels of garbage ‘music’ they were blaring in the place.
Too many employees still refuse to comprehend that the music is there for the CUSTOMER.
They comprehend, all right, they just don’t give a shit about their customers and neither does their management who allows them to get away with that kinda shit.
Sorry. Not meaning to be critical, just feeling a little less willing than normal to put up with that kinda crap this morning.
Costco loses money on their hotdogs, they froze the price in the ’80s. I pay $120Cdn a year for my membership, this is one of the perqs I get, though I choose the Polish sausage which is much tastier.
Haven’t been to five guys in years. Got too expensive for what it was, and the quality declined even before it go so costly. Besides, who the hell goes to a place called “five guys” and orders a hotdog? I’ll make hotdogs on the grille at home, if I’m actually in the mood for some. Increasingly, I’m taking the same tack for burgers, just because eating out has gotten so damn pricey.
Costco makes their profit off of memberships. Five guys hot dog has significantly higher overhead than the Costco dog. Just the labor per dog probably highly favors Costco due to minimal staff down time. Throw in the cost of rent and periodic remodeling that 5 Guys probably does. And as was already said, the hot dog is a loss leader for Costco. I assume the average bill to walk out of Costco is north of $200us.
It’s a gimmick. Members pay $100+ for membership and then wander around the stores every few weeks spending hundreds of dollars they don’t have on shit they don’t need. What they lose on hot dogs (lips and assholes) is minuscule compared to what they make on impulse purchases.
I quit going to 5 Guys cafes years ago because they were too pricey. And they always over cook their hamburgers making them dry and nasty.

I have never felt the need to eat there. Sounds like I haven’t missed out on anything.
Me either, was always too expensive.

The CEO of Costco found out they were losing their ass on the buck fifty hot dogs but they were so popular that he bought a hot dog factory .

I get my (Polish) dawgs from Costco, they’re better/cheaper/tastier.

Both times I’ve been to Five Guys the place was filthy.
