Camping Saturday

I saw a this slide in camper on a pick up just the other day and looked up on the web. It’s base price, bare assed bones is $26,990… In the advertisement it used words like “Sustainable, Minimalist, Modular, Lean and Green.” I’ll say. 270 degree awning, $995, Removable camper Jacks, $1295, Roof Top tent, $5495, Two Burner Portable Cook Stove, $298, Fridge/Freezer, $1445, Stow a way Cassette Toilet, $995, Diesel Heater, $2495. There are other options available, equally expensive. I am not one to criticize too severely, but this is marketed to virtue signaling rich yuppies that have not a clue. The web site is www.ScoutCampers.com if ya want to take a gander.

  1. For virtue signalling, check out Airstream’s Boondocker series. Tiny trailer starting at about $40k.

  2. Re: That International Safari Truck, hope you like going in a straight line.

      • However, that’s an artist’s conception. I’m sure it has an articulation joint in the sheet metal right over the rear axle in The Real World.

        Now, to FIND one!

        • Oh yeah, I fingered that… it is an advertisement I found. Not to scale or functional accuracy.

  3. Some pretty good ones, I love those old GMC Coaches.

Y’all wanna see some EXPENSIVE backcountry rigs, check these guys out: https://earthroamer.com/

Their HQ is just down the road from me and I usually see their Techs gassing up at the local Maverick station. I doubt that I could afford to even rent one of these monsters.

Fairly impressive though, for something built on a Ford base. 😉

    • Holy moly! Talk about showing your wealth! The HD, the big one is $1,900,000 million! An Ford F-750 chassis and a GVWR of 37,000lbs, ya need a damn class B CDL to legally drive it on US soil! I can’t even afford to look one over… the heart infarct hospital bill would closely match that price.

      • Holy Moly hardly covers it! A USED one, 2 years old with 10k miles on it is available for 1,500,000! Hahahahahahaha! Build your own custom rig that would be twice the vehicle for 10% of that.

I’ve often said that it must be fun to be able to afford twice the truck you know how to drive, I’d have to revise that to 40x here.

      • Oh yeah. Total rich kid “status symbols” for those who must show off. Mind blowing fantasy world stuff….

Even if I had that kinda money I wouldn’t spend it like that. It would be fun to torture test one though. Ya know, for “research” purposes.

Like Mathew said, build your own for a fraction of that price. I’d go old school with a modified Duce and a Half or the like.

            • 10 mpg

AND it has a central tire inflation system!

That rich boy rig Ford chassis is absolutely maxed out at 37,000lbs. and only gets a little over 8 mpg.

              Looked it up, not fooled.

          • Mathew,

Yeah buddy, that’s what I’m talkin’ about! I like that Airstream idea too. Either that or a short conex.

    • Wish it was, I would buy a small plot of land, have a nice metal building erected and place that inside on blocks and would become my permanent home…

      • That would be perfect! I’ve thought about doing the exact same thing. Maybe someday, if I’m lucky.

      • Me and the missus ave the same plans. She wants a deck AND an external potty because our bladders and blackwater dumps seem to synchronize whenever we are out and about!
