Yes, folks, the Beaver Motor Coach Co. (Bend, OR) used Gillig bus chassis’ for their coaches. GMC powertrain, mine’s a 427 truck engine with an Allison ATA 535 transmission (4 forward, 1 reverse.)
Their interiors were all OAK, their woodworking department was second to none. Mine had a 6′ satellite dish on the back, dual TV’s, automatic Ice maker, built-in blender, 3-power source fridge (AC, DC, Propane), 4-battery coach set, 6.5 KW Onan generator, dual AC, Furnace, 45 gallon propane tank and 97 gallon gas tank, 45 gallon water tank. Lots of other stuff too numerous to remember right now, but Beaver was one of the top-end RVs in 1985. I have the Bill of Sale from the original purchase, it was $123K – and this was in 1985!!
I picked it up for $6K cash 8 years ago, it was in sad need of repair. I’m restoring and repainting it slowly, it’s a big pig and takes 8 gallons of automotive paint at $100/gallon. Good thing I know how to paint cars!! Or busses…………
Say….
I have this tiny little car you could practice on.
You know, just to brush up the rusty skills…
Hell, it’s SO TINY, a gallon would probably put TWO coats on!
LMAO!
Igor, you would have to practice up on your mechanical, electrical, upholstery and exorcisms skills too…
If you can get it here, Phil, I’ll paint it. Yes, I do body work, but putty/bondo only.
If I had any vacation time I’d take ya up on it.
It basically needs to be sanded and sprayed.
I’m thinking about taking that damn tilt front end off and bolting a stock one back on it first.
It would be a snap to paint it. Squirt can in one hand and a piece of cardboard to mask in the other. Follow up with a lacquer thinner rag for the mild over spray! Today im a dick. Sorry everybody.
I can paint cars and busses too, just hand me a rattle can of Rustoleum…
DON’T make me come over there!
Provost has a plant in Pryor, Ok. Visited once, affordability never for me but some made those RV shows on TV long ago.
“Camping by the bay.” The guy is wearing a suit and tie. Classy.
Today…well….it wouldn’t be a suit and tie. Face tats, nose ring, green/blue/yellow hair with a lgbtqxyz123++++ shirt.
Phil, “Documenting the Death of America” is the greatest byline for a site I’ve ever seen. Wish I’d thought of it. KUDOS !
Years ago the wife and I were camping in the redwoods in a tent.
One of those big ass branches dropped in the middle of the night and missed the tent by a few feet. Slept with one eye open the rest of the night.
That’s a baby branch! Redwoods typically drop BIG branches from near the top of the tree. About the size of regular trees, falling a couple hundred feet. The local Indians called those branches “whispering death”.
Some years back, the biggest Redwood in Big Sur dropped one on her gravel driveway. Required a large backhoe to dig it out of the ground, so it could be turned into lumber.
Nice pic of the Beaver 34, Cederq, thanks!
