Most of that was some hard living we can’t even fathom. I think we may be about to learn though.
One of the houses I grew up in the kitchen was formerly a real log cabin; looked like #11. The original log cabin was built ~1792. A family sitting room, bedroom and indoor bathroom was added ~1802. A formal sitting room, bedroom and two upstairs bedrooms and bath were added ~1812. Foundation supports in the basement were actual tree trucks and the slats in the ceilings were tree limbs hammered into place with square nails. It was finally torn down about 1997 and the log cabin portion was taken apart timber by timber and rebuilt on the back part of the property.
