I’m seeing multiple sources repoting that The Prince Of Darkness has passed away.
God rest his soul.
It is the beginning of an end of an epic era.

Saw it in a couple of places, too. Sad to see him go.
Music just died a little bit more.
Requiescat in pace.

He had a great run!
War Pigs couldn’t be any more relevant than today.
It got a little bit darker today.
Fuck him, good riddance. He was a Satanic, useful fool…with a few good songs.
Bet this makes me as popular as HELL. Thank you, thank you, I’ll be here all week.
nope, anyone who pissed on the Alamo memorial, fuck em.
And you’re the same ones who hated George Carlin for making you look in the mirror, he blew the lid off your fantasy world.
What a vulgar thing to say, mike.
To be forthcoming, I feel the same about Ozzy and his grifter wife as Mike does. Never liked him, never liked his politics and the fact of him pissing on the Alamo Memorial.
Will concur with not liking his political leanings (or his Karenesque wife). Pretty sure he was also a little bitch vaxxtard during COVID, along with Dee Snider and many others of that ilk. Plus plenty of other personal shortcomings, some already mentioned here by others. So, on that account, I never really cared for the guy. He did have a few decently listenable songs, and I’ll at least give him some credit for that.
The thing is, that’s why I’ve never engaged in celebrity worship, because they almost always end up being a huge disappointment, in the strictly personal sense. These are largely flawed individuals (more so than typical) who live life on the edge by dint of not only their natural behavioral tendencies, but because the entertainment biz is notorious for harboring the highly dysfunctional.
Can one set aside the political/religious/whatever reasons and just enjoy the work of a entertainer, sports figure, artist, performer without it being idol worship?
I used to be able to do that, more so than I can now, anyway. Some musicians and actors are so obnoxiously repellent with their political bullshit they are now consigned to my full on boycott list. Ozzy wasn’t on it, but then I didn’t pay him much attention to begin with. He had about 3 songs I find listenable, so he wasn’t a big hitter in my music library to begin with.
Yes, things are very badly polarized now, but that is the natural progression of divergent politics. Eventually this sorting out of incompatible points of view leads to one thing: civil war. Now ask yourself, do you honestly think we avert that outcome, given reality on the ground in this country today? Political violence has been slowly increasing for years already. Giving entertainers who offend one’s sensibilities the big piss off is just another waypoint on the path to the big show.
The first so-called American civil war pitted brother against brother and permanently destroyed the unity of families with divided loyalties. The next one will be different only in it’s level of brutality afforded by modern technology. Most people cannot comprehend that now, because no one alive today has really had that experience first hand. COVID, and how people broke differently on the subject of it’s various angles, gave us a pretty solid sneak preview of the extreme animosity that can come to the fore even between spouses and immediate family members. There will be no escaping this when shit finally comes to a head.
Well said. You are a well=spoken individual BRD, I appreciate your ability to articulate a cogent thought with discernment.
@Big Ruckus D,
A reasonable reply from you. I do my best not to let the political beliefs of an artist or performer prevent me from appreciating their talent. DeNiro; unhinged deranged TDS. While I haven’t seen any movies of his in years (mostly because the plot or story doesn’t interest me), I don’t allow his TDS to interfere with my appreciation that he is a good actor. Ditto James Garner, a solid, lifelong supporter of Dem ideology. That never interfered with my appreciating The Rockford Files and other roles he played.
Alice Cooper said it best when, I paraphrase, politics and Rock aren’t to be mixed together.
Personally, I can’t recall Ozzy mentioning much at all on politics when I’ve seen him interviewed or read an article on him.
RE: the divisive nature of the US and rest of the world is by design, you know that. The realist/pessimist in me says in the future, all nations and its people will be serf nations. The only 2 things the U.S. people have, for now, is 1A Free Speech and it’s already being chipped away at. After 1A gone, they dismantle 2A, also under attack for years, and it will be negated. Will there be a CW or submissive acquaintance? I don’t know. I lean more to the latter than the former.
EDIT: acquiescence not acquaintance.
My take on “entertainers” and actors and celebrities, dance monkey dance, sing monkey sing, act monkey act. I don’t want to hear your opinion or mouth.
I cant decide which is worse…
Entertainers that feel that it is their God given duty to inundate me with their politics,
or politicians that try to be entertaining ?
actors seem to be the worst with musicians running a close second.
Ozzy to his credit didnt get involved too much in all that, other than the British past time of staying ahead of the tax man. which i hear can be a full time job itself over there.
johno, you’re right, I did say that in a vulgar way. Just a geezer that really appreciated War Pig when it came out. I was 19, in the military and naive beyond description. I was (sorta am) hooked on rock (and all entertainment), despite my current knowledge that almost ALL of have them are in the same boat, with the whole hidden, evil, proclivities for innocence destroying associations and behavior.
So, guilty as charged.
Black Sabbath’s Master of Reality was one of the first 8 tracks I ever bought.
He went off the deep end later, but some really good music early on.
I seriously doubt God will be resting his soul, but maybe he repented before he was ended.
I wasn’t a huge fan (though War Pigs is one hell of a song, no doubt, and of great relevance to our time). That said, it kind of bums me out every time someone from the classic rock era kicks off this mortal coil; even the ones perceived as assholes; that being somewhat subjective. The reality is we are coming ever closer to the time when real rock and roll will be a historical artifact, unless a whole lot of youngsters take up the cause.
The originals who gave us the goods from the 60’s to the 80’s are fading fast now, and live performances get less and less common. Sure, we have decades worth of recordings to listen to. Moreover, there are some excellent cover bands, and that is admirable in it’s own way. But, original badass rock and roll is not something being created new in any noticeable quantity these days. That is damned shame.
My music collection basically stops in the late 1990s. The gatekeepers – the record labels – decided to split rock and roll into “metal” and elevator music, and I don’t much care for either. Rock – the kind I like – vanished, because the people who made that sort of thing couldn’t get a recording contract for it.
Supposedly “indie” and streaming have alleviate some of this, but nowadays I’m deaf enough I’d never hear the tracks anyway.
Where is Keith Richards?
Still kicking, that’s where. I’m almost convinced that dude is going to outlive us all. I really don’t know how a guy who led his lifestyle is still going strong.
$100,000 blood transfusions twice a year is how.
Nah. Richards died in 1976 with panceatic cancer. To complete their tour, the band hired a look-alike to complete their tour. Nobody really noticed, and Keith 2 was with the band until 1983 when he overdosed and wound up alive, but in a nursing home. He was replaced with Keith 3, who was only with the band for a few weeks before he vanished. Nobody found out what happened to him. He was replaced with Keith 4, who is still with the band.
Didn’t care for the man, liked some of his music. I wish musicians and celebrities just did their job on the stage and leave the politics out. I still listen to some Ozzy music. I can separate the music and the the ideology of the man, fortunately, or I would have to give up a lot of the music I grew up with. I cannot stand Jimmy Buffett, who personally is a POS, but I still enjoy “Cheeseburger In Paradise.”
