10 THINGS YOUR DOG WOULD TELL YOU

1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be painful. Remember that before you get me.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me — it is crucial to my well-being.

4. Do not be angry at me for long, and do not lock me up as punishment.

5. You have your work, your entertainment, and your friends. I only have you.

6. Talk to me sometimes. Even if I don’t understand your words, I understand your voice when it is speaking to me.

7. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget.

8. Remember before you hit me that I have teeth that could easily hurt you, but I choose not to bite you because I love you.

9. Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate, or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I might not be getting the right food, or I have been out too long, or my heart is getting too old and weak.

10. Take care of me when I get old; you too will grow old. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say: “I cannot bear to watch” or “Let it happen in my absence.” Everything is easier for me if you are there, even my death.

  1. Yes many of us have lost good ones and we still miss them years later. I cried when i read it on VirualMirage the first time.

  2. Thank you for that. I’ve got 2 good dogs by my side as i type and another 6 waiting for me. I often think that if God hadn’t made dogs, we wouldn’t miss them ’cause we wouldn’t know any different; but i’m so glad He did!

  3. Dogs are the best of the best animals on the planet.
Sometimes I need a reminder like this to knock me upside my thick head, that my dogs love me and would do anything for me.
I just need to love ’em back.
I was going out for an hour yesterday and opened my vehicle door and one jumped in and looked at me as if to say “where we going daddy?” and he wouldn’t leave.
Within 1 minute I had all 5 in there waiting for a car ride. I had to drive them around the town for 10 minutes and drop them off at home.
They just wanted to be with daddy for a little while. LOL

  4. Thanks CederQ. Going to get this framed and hung on the wall as a daily reminder. Marco, my elderly father’s yellow lab had to come live with me since he knocked father down so many times which is unfortunately pretty easy to do since he has a hard time keeping balance now days. Marco is rarely out of my sight since I am retired and I am quickly getting so attached to him it’s hard to leave him at home. I bring Marco everywhere I go. The surprise is that he’s a chick magnet cause all the girls want to greet him and Marco acts like it’s the greatest day of life to meet someone new. Now if I could just get the nerve up to ask for phone numbers. Just joking, kind of.

  5. I have a camp dog now, husky, sweetest dog I ever petted. She recently had two cute pups.

  6. I was doing fine until I got to #10.
Got an 8 year old Great Pyrenees. Just got a puppy for her to train 2 days ago. The circle continues.
