I made it to my brother’s place in La Pine Oregon yesterday evening and will be heading out to Burns Oregon out in the middle of nowhere here in a few. Right after we stop for breakfast.

Drive safe! Enjoy your trip.
Have a ‘good’ time!
From what I’ve read, the middle of nowhere, Oregon, is the best part of it
Depends on your criteria. Everywhere in OR is burdened by the lefty-loonies in the state legislature. OTOH, it ain’t Portland. If you can ignore the horrible politics, there are nicer places in OR than Burns. But then I prefer forests and ocean to high desert.
If you’re headed back to Bend to take Hwy20, it’s a busy route with lots of traffic to Burns on through to Ontario. Get a couple miles off 20 and you really are into the middle of nowhere. If you go from LaPine through Fort Rock, Christmas Valley, and Wagontire, you will see a whole lot of nothing. Beyond Burns is Drewsey, Juntura, and Harper, all of which will have you asking why they’re even on a map.
One of our favorite lunch cantinas in LaPine is Lucky Fortune Chinese. A couple blocks off the highway, so you won’t find it unless you’re looking for it.
I grew up in the rain forests of the western slopes of the Cascades, so it took me a long time to appreciate the high desert. But it has its own aesthetic, and even in our current digs in the sagebrush and juniper, we can be up in the piney woods in a half hour.
We went past Fort Rock and through Christmas Valley on the way there because neither my brother or I had ever been through there. I was surprised at how many farms there were in some parts. We just got back to La Pine from Burns a few minutes ago and we came back on highway 20. With the setting sun directly in my eyes. He dove there and I drove back. I’m glad we went but I’m just as glad to get back here too.
300 and some miles today and I have to drive back to Vancouver tomorrow.
LaPine – hitchiking thru there when I heard over the radio that spiro agnew resigned
I hope you had fun stormin’ the castle!
What? No pics? Drive safely and enjoy!
I remember years ago a radio station over there ran a contest where the grand prize was ‘a boat trip from Bend to Burns’…Dry, high desert for those who aren’t familiar.
