Bypass the tarring, as it interferes with the the performance of the wood chipper’s blades.
I seem to recall something about the classic process calling for a tallow candle at the end.
Another added part is fire, lots and lots of fire.
There’s two ways to do the Tar and Feathering.
Cold (really it’s warm) tar, like you use to spot-tar a barespot on wood. Then add feathers. Advantage: Person will live. Disadvantage: Person will live.
Hot tar, like boiling hot tar for roofing or first sealing a wooden boat or ship or wooden rail tie. Then add feathers. Advantage: Person can die, as the burns are horrible. Disadvantage: Person can live, as the burns are potentially survivable.
