My two oldest got stick shift when they became of age to drive in early to mid 1990’s, beater Volvos. Both love stick over automatics. The youngest fell into the first decade of 2000 at driving age and there were no more beaters with a stick to be found in this area. Luckily an uncle had a bobtail truck, he learned to shift that sucker fairly well, but exhibits no interest in such for a daily, wants an automatic all wheel drive with all the electronic bells and whistles only frugally resists the fact that they cost over 20K used now, so he has a 2016 beater at a quart of oil per fuel fillup…. yep, it’s a Hyundai. Yeah, they will wrench if forced to fix something, but not like ol’ dad with his almost complete workshop. And so it goes.
Not that it matters…..
None of them can drive a stick.

Mine can. I forced it on them.
I’d like to know what he had under that rod…
Big block, big cam, big carburetor.
Also, the switch on the shifter is a line lock for the front brakes.
A big engine, duh.
Howies speed shop. They were icons.
That’s the kind of music I grew up with–and I’m not primarily talking about Dylan. Damn, that thing’s cammed!
No seatbelt, luv it. Makes me hear green onions in my head, headed out to paradise road.
No air bags.
We die like real men.
The vast majority of the “younger gender” isn’t interested in having this type of freedom.

Nice Hurst shifter. That barely moves to shift.
Those were the days.
Had a Hurst V-gate shifter in my ’57. Wife HATED it.
