I hate it when this happens.

I was trying to drive an 8 Mm hex bit into an 8mm Hex bit socket after I broke the bit, drove it out and cut down an 8 Mm Allen wrench at work.

I had it on the flat spot on the back of an 8 inch vise and was using a Mechanic’s Ball Peen hammer.

I was swinging pretty hard too.

I swung, it glanced off the end of the bit, which took off across the shop like a bullet and smacked the side of my left thumb full blast.

It hit so hard that it raised a blood blister on the opposite side facing the vise,.

The side that took the hit is all bruised and swollen now.

That shiny spot is a bruise.

I have a dollar says that the nail is going to turn black eventually.

This ain’t the first time of course. A couple years ago I blasted it so hard it literally split 3/4’s of the way around at the knuckle. It took 9 stitches to close.

20 years ago I hit it with a 5 lb. sledge hammer and split the top side clear to the bone. I wrapped it in a shop towl and electrical tape and drove myself to the doctor 20 miles away.

He looked at it, looked at me and asked if it was the bone he was looking at?

I said you are the doctor and you don’t know?

Yeah buddy, that’s the bone you are looking at. That one was 12 sticthes as I recall.

So now you undestand why I nicknamed myself Bustednuckles.

Lemme tell ya, it’s throbbing like a sick chicken’s ass still, five hours after I did it.
