There is some disagreement out there, arguing that the hands were together above the head. That would take two. There are things that are easier to explain this way, but there are at least as many things made harder to explain this way. I expect you are right.
I suspect whatever disagreement originated with those who weren’t there.
Maybe they had heard of a nail shortage. Or, their neighbors best friends cousin knew a guy who knew a guy who’d been strung up on two, no one nail.
